Information for New Believers

Acts 16:31 says, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved.”

Whether it was at church, through a friend, during a sermon, or another way, you heard the Good News about Jesus Christ and chose to believe that what the Bible says is true: that God created us, sin separated us from His love, and Jesus came to earth to save us from the penalty of sin by dying on the cross and rising again three days later, defeating sin and death.

Romans 10:9 says, “If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord”, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”

Part of accepting Jesus’ gift of salvation is realizing that we do need saving from our sin. All of us have done wrong in our lives – only Jesus was perfect – which means we must confess that we have a need for Him to save us.

1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness”. What wonderful news! There is no sin we have ever committed or will commit in the future that Jesus is not faithful to forgive. We can live in freedom from sin forever as we follow Jesus.

John 1:12 says, “Yet to all who receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.” You are now a child of God – and nothing can take that away from you.

John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” God gave each of us the gift of Jesus so that we could have a close relationship with Him. You are now a new person in Jesus Christ!

2 Corinthians 5:17 says, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come.” The life you once lived no longer defines you. Over time as God works in your heart and you learn how to live out the new life He has given you, transformation will occur that will allow you to experience more love, joy, and peace than you have ever had!

1 John 5:12 says, “He who has the Son has life.” We pray that you fully receive this life and all it has to offer!

When we put our faith in God and accept Jesus as our Savior, we are filled with the Holy Spirit – the divine power of God. He becomes one with us and we are given the ability to understand the Bible (Scripture), connect with God more deeply in prayer, and receive gifts that will help us on our Christian journey.

John 14:26 says, “But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.”

The Holy Spirit helps us in our weaknesses, encourages us with truth, and teaches us what we need to know. He is our spiritual partner in this new life, and we can rely on Him to help us in our times of need.

Becoming a Christian is the best decision you’ll ever make – but it doesn’t mean life will be perfect or that everything will be easy from now on. Although God promises to walk with us through our struggles, we shouldn’t assume that we won’t face trials and temptation because we still live in a fallen world along with people who don’t yet know God.

Jesus himself said in John 16:33, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

When life takes a turn for the worse, or we feel out of control, remember that you walk with the power of God’s Spirit in you, and that you do not have to face things alone.

1 Corinthians 10:3 says, “No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.” We all have free will to continue sinning, but the beautiful news is – we never have to give into temptation! When we are willing to ask God for help, He always provides for us, and if we do give into sin, Jesus is faithful to forgive us.

Now that you have been given new life in Christ, there are next steps you can take to grow in your faith and deepen this new relationship with God. These are learning how to pray, reading your Bible, connecting with other Christians in community, and over time becoming a disciple of Jesus – living like He did on earth so you can share truth, love, and light with those around you. There are many spiritual rhythms you can practices and make part of your daily life, and getting started can feel overwhelming!

That’s why when someone accepts Christ at New Life, we actually have trained mentors to walk with you through this process of learning and growth. If you’re interested in getting connected with a mentor, fill out a Connection Card and let us know!
